Our monthly Spaghetti Dinners was a wonderful time of good food and fellowship. The cost was $7.00 per person. We plan on having them the last Friday of Each month. We are grateful and appreciative to the the young men at the Heavenly Cafe (Yianni, Niko & JR) for proving much of the food and supplies.

The next Spaghetti Dinner will be Friday, May 25th, from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

New Altar Coverings

On March 12 our new altar coverings arrived! The material is a brocade fabric and is much richer than the older coverings and precisely fits the altar. Our sincere thanks to Dena Mitropoulos for sewing the fabric and for lining it so that it hangs better. We are also deeply grateful to Dino & Jo Curris and to Tim & Dawn Sculley for donating the material. We now have altar coverings in gold, red and white. We eventually hope to add coverings in purple, black and blue. Donations toward this ongoing project would be most welcome.

Fr. Dennis would like to organize a parish trip in the near future. It would be a day trip. Perhaps we would rent a van or charter a bus. Your input would be welcome.Where would you like to go?

"The Orthodox Church is evangelical, but not Protestant. It is orthodox, but not Jewish. It is catholic, but not Roman. It isn't non-denominational, it is pre-denominational. It has believed, taught, preserved, defended, and died for the Faith of the Apostles since the Day of Pentecost 2000 years ago."

WELCOME

Thank you for visiting Prophet Elias Greek Orthodox Church's website. Our parish welcomes people of all ethnic backgrounds. Our mission is to be faithful to Our Lord Jesus Christ, who commanded, "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit." Matthew 28:19

We are a sacramental and liturgical church under the jurisdiction of the Holy Metropolis of San Francisco. Holy Communion is offered at every Divine Liturgy.

Are you new to the area? We invite you and your loved ones to attend and hope that you will find a home here.

We look forward to your presence as we gather and worship as a community of faith. Our ministries and organizations have places for many diffierent talents - yours are needed. Whatever we do, we do it in His name and we are grateful for your participation.

     God Bless You!

     Yours in Christ,

     Fr. Dennis (Dionysios) Vierling

Family Sunday - May 27th

Family Sunday is celebrated every last Sunday of the Month. Parishioners are asked to attend church as a family and receive Holy Communion together if possible. Fr. Dennis will prepare a special show & tell presentation. Everyone is asked to bring a covered (non-meat & non-dairy) dish for a Potluck Luncheon. Families are a small church and churches are large families. We look forward to coming together as a family in Christ.

Sunday School

On January 29th we began a Sunday  program here at Prophet Elias. We have five students at our first session. It is our prayer that this number will grow. The February Sunday School classes will be held May 27th.

COMMUNITY NEWS

Twitter
On March 12th our community just created a Twitter Account. The name is Prophet Elias Church. If you are on Twitter, plan to start following our church tweets!

Congratulations

The latest from the East Bay to be chosen as the State Coach of the Year is Bill Mellis from Salesian of Richmond. Mellis, in his 14th season with the Pride, guided this year’s team to a 33-2 record (on-the-court) and its second CIF Division IV state title in the last four years.

"I'm honored and it’s great to get recognition but what it really does is validate what we do as a staff," said Mellis on Wednesday when told of the honor. "Eddie Foster has been with me all 14 years and I have two former players on my staff.

"The effort they put into scouting, preparation, and drills in practice is tremendous, plus we had a group of guys that really bought into our system. That's when it really clicks."

Achievement
Our best wishes go out to Constantine Nicholas Hadjipateras, the grandson of Jimmy and Eleni Petroutsas. Constantine is majoring in philosophy and religion at Colgate University. He has received many awards during his years at Colgate and has been a senior captain on the Calgate University men's swim team. He was named second team All-Patriot LEague for the first time in his career, set a new Colgate record in the 200 butterfly at Patriot League Championships with a time of 1:49.83 and secured an Olympic time trial cut in the 200 Fly. Constantine recently competed in the International Meeting at Alexandria in Athens, Greece, and earned a first-place finish in the 200-meter butterfly. Hadjipateras swam in three different events, but his best performance came in the 200-meter butterfly. With this time, he is now the 5th seed in the 200 fly event for Greek Olympic Trials, which he plans to travel to after Colgate Graduation in May. He hopes to represent Greece in the next Olympics.
